Hello! I’m Melissa Romano - I’m excited to introduce myself as a candidate for MFPE President.

I’ve spent my career serving Montana’s public schools and communities, and I currently teach 8th grade math in Helena. Every day, I experience the same realities so many of you face including the challenges, the victories, and the deep commitment to the people we serve. Whether you’re supporting students, maintaining our facilities, or providing critical public services across our state, our work matters and it deserves to be respected and supported.

You may also know me from my time in the Montana Legislature, where I fought for public education, working families, and the professionals who make our schools and public services run. That experience gave me a deep understanding of how decisions are made at the state level, and how critical it is that our union has a strong, strategic, and respected voice in those spaces.

I’m running for MFPE President because I believe in the power of this union, not just to protect what we have, but to grow, to organize, and to lead.

I believe in a member-driven union where voices are heard, transparency is the norm, and relationships are at the center of how we do our work.
