Melissa is a lifelong Montanan, having been born and raised in Helena, where she still lives and teaches today.

As an educator, Melissa has demonstrated an unparalleled passion for the welfare of Montana's youth and the quality of their education.

Melissa's stellar achievements in education, including receiving the prestigious National Science Foundation’s Presidential Award for excellence in math and science teaching and being awarded Montana Teacher of the Year in 2018, have opened doors to numerous leadership opportunities. Through these roles, she has collaborated with communities across Montana and the nation to elevate math and science education standards, all while actively engaging with educators, parents, administrators, and students.

Whether tackling complex policy issues or addressing seemingly simple matters, she prioritizes the voices of stakeholders and utilizes available data to craft pragmatic solutions that prioritize the well-being of Montana's children and families.
